The costs for editioning a print

As each print and the work required to edition it is unique, determining how much an editioning job should cost is remarkably difficult. At PrintEditioning.com we work to a very straightforward formula. When we take on a job we work together proofing the print with the artist until we have achieved a perfect control proof. That proofing session is charged at £15 an hour. With the experience gained from that session, an assessment is made of the time that it would take to pull a single print. The editioning job is then charged at either £15 an hour or as a per print price the cost of which is worked out at an equivalent of £15 an hour (a simple drypoint where we could print three prints in an hour would be charged at £5 per print while a complex, multi-plate, colour etching that would take an hour to print would be £15). As it takes some time to set up for an editioning job and to clear up afterwards, the minimum job we would take on would be three hours or the equivalent per print cost.
